I am under the understanding that igs require absolutely no animal protein whatsoever. I used to feed mine tofu once a week, they would split a tub between the two of them. My vet, who is probably one of the best reptile vets in the country told me to not feed them tofu or any animal protein at all. That it would only lead to kidney failure down the road. So I stopped. But they love the stuff so much that I feel quilty for not giving them something I know they love so much. But I don't because I want my animals as healthy as they can be and I want them to be with me for many many years.

: Okay...so we are at the vet and the vet asks if I give her protein. I fumble around and make noises about plant protein and say that I'd been told that alfalfa pellets or powder was a good way to up the protein in the diet. He says he's NEVER heard of using alfalfa for protein for an iguana. *sigh* This dr. is top notch no question about it so this made me confused...yet again!! Asked him what he'd suggest and he told me to make up some beans and brown rice for her or use tofu.

: She LOVES rice anyway and now I understand why she goes crazy when I make Sarah (dtr) and me red beans & rice LOL LOL LOL

: What was my question? Oh yeah. If there are those of you out here in ig forum land who use tofu, how much? How often? I did ask which beans were best and he told me pretty much any bean as long as it's cooked :o) Same question....how much, how often PLUS any recommendation on bean? Recommend squishing to keep from becoming impaction problem?

: If you would like to remain anonymous (*understanding grin*), you may e-mail your answers to me at:

: mailto:iguanamomma@hotmail.com

: Or my family address if you already have it. Don't be offended folks but I don't like putting that one out for the world to see because it is accessible by the whole family.

: Thanks for any help or suggestions!

: Glenda
: (next will be the poop story LOL & a short recap of ?'s I'd been meaning to ask the vet)
