As to your questions of how long till she lays and what extra care should be given her I have no personal experience. My female Mel has never been gravid despite being 6 yrs old.

But I do know that Melissa Kaplan has a article on her site that discusses care of gravid females and setting up suitable nest sites (I believe it involves a garbage can and a moss mixture?) I would suggest checking her site out.

Also please follow the suggestion below and freeze the eggs before disposing of them. Far better to ensure they don't hatch at all, then to have little iglets hatched in a landfill.
