Cliff, you are 132% correct. I couldn't agree with you more. I know how the business aspect of it all works too. I have far too much retail management experience. i can see their point as far as wanting to make a profit from everything they do. But the bottom line is........petsmart is not a humane company at all. I did however decide to stay for now. I went up to petsmart to throw my goofy uniform at him, and he convinced me that I need to help to educate the rest of the employees. He claims that he has learned a great deal about some of the reptiles due to my time there. I guess that it's a noble cause. But I told him that if I were to stay, that my main goal is to have that store, as well as every other petsmart store do away with selling reptiles all together. i think that a huge retail chain cannot properly provide adequate care, and cannot provide adequate training to it's employees. For example: They have one manual on reptile care, that is required reading for all employees. This book is titled: "The Green iguana"..........It's a thin book with large text! I am pretty sure that one book cannot cover all the bases for such a wide variety of reptiles that come through there. Also, the reptiles stay at the store is supposed to ideally be very temporary. Usually that is not the case. Many of the herps there have been there for many months. The competition in this area alone is too much. I could go on forever with this, but to sum it all up.......the only way that my employment will have any longevity for petsmart, will be if I can get them to stop selling reptiles all together. they already stopped selling iguanas. I think that there might be a chance.....and I'm on a mission!
