I saw a picture of an entertainment center that someone converted into a iguana cage just a day or two ago unfortunately I don�t remember where. Also I think I have (or can find) how someone else did it and I will look for that. In fact I might look for that picture if I get some time. When someone talks about a ceramic heater they are talking about one of the above pictures. What I have labeled as a ceramic heater is what Hadfield talks about on page 186-188 and it is what he prefers to heat an enclosed cage. They are used to raise the ambient air temperature. In my opinion they are not expense if you know when to buy them. They usually go on clearance in the spring and summer. I saw one with built-in thermostat and several different settings for $20 and it usually sold for $80. They come in all kinds of wattages but the normal is to have two settings in one heater 1500 W for high & 750 W for low. What I have labeled as ceramic heat emitter is what most people mean when they say "ceramic heater" Hadfield doesn�t address then directly but they are basically the same as Infrared Bulbs (infrared bulbs produce 10% visible light and ceramic heat emitters don�t produce any) that he talks about on page 190-191. They are usually used to create a basking spot although they can raise the ambient temperature too because some can put out a lot of heat. They also come in different wattages, usually from 40 W to 250 W. I think they cost usually $20 to $30 depending of the brand and wattage.

P.S. I just looked at Traci's post and she is talking about a ceramic heat emitter and I went to www.herpsupplies.com and checked the prices they are about what I said but if you get a Fluker CHE it will be under $20.
