When i bought my iguana i was very uninformed as to how to choose a healthy one, the diseases that they could have/get or that there were places to adopt them. i went to a pet store a year ago and bought an iguana. i noticed at the store that he had a crooked jaw. at the time i thought it was a birth defect. a month later he started developing hard lumps on his hind legs (a classic characteristic of MBD). he also twitched occasionally and his head swelled. i found Melissa kaplin's site and read many of the article on her site. i learned that he had metabolic bone disease. i bought calcium supplement and have been keeping an eye on the ca:p ration in his salads. he got a little worse (larger lumps) then the lumps slowly went away and his color has changed to a vibrant green but he has still twitches every now and then.... he has hardly grown in the past 4 or 5 months. i've had him a year and he is only 12" stl, 3.5" svl. his cage temps range from 70-95 degrees and he has a full spectrum bulb to bask under. his cage is 2' x 3' x 2.5' he has been in this cage for the past 11 months. the humidity is 70% at most times but i try to keep it higher than that, when ever i come into the room i mist the cage.... am i doing something wrong or did the mbd permanently stunt his growth? my dad things he is just a ping-me species of iguana but i am doubtful that the answer is that simple.
thank you in advance for you help
