When I got My first Ig....I had no idea whatsoever what I was getting into. I learned the hard way, after feeding my first second, and even my third ig all the wrong stuff. I was at the time....as naive as everybody who goes to a pet store, and sees an Ig, and says,"wow..that's cool! I want one!", having no idea the care and attention requirements that applied to this precious creature. I am not one of the typical ig owners, anymore. I have six Igs, and four of them are rescues. I not only have the knowledge to care for them, but the financial stability to provide for them, which is something that most ig owners don't have. The fact that we have soooooo many Igs that are unwanted, or set free into the suburbs......or abused so badly that already need homes....I think nobody should import igs until we can all handle the ones that are already here. i look at my Igs like children...and I could not feed my family from the profits I would make from sentencing most of the igs I would breed to a certain death. i agree completely that there should not be a demand for igs like there is,,and the supply shouldn't be so great that they can be sold for 5 to 10 dollars, and even given away as prizes at traveling carnivals. The fact that my fellow humans can be so cruel to another living creature, makes me very ashamed and ill in the gut to admit that I too am a human. But in a nutshell, I feel that anybody who wants a pet iguana, should first take a competency test, purchase the ig(baby or not) for a hefty price directly from a breeder.....a reputable one that won't encourage feeding the Ig meat protiens (no offence). There are laws that prevent abuse of other living creatures, but since we are savages....we rarely enforce them. Let's all bow our heads in shame for the human race!!!!! I just bowed mine!
