In Reply to: Take to the vet---ASAP! Tomorrow could be too late posted by xta on June 21, 1999 at 16:21:50:

I understand their hesistancy to take a reptile into the vet because it can get expensive. However, by delaying treatment it can get even MORE expensive and as xta pointed out it can result in the death of your pet.

I would urge you to ask them to come here and read the posts that have been made to you. (If they haven't already.) Let them see that you are not pulling all this "emergency" stuff out of the air. Those who have posted to you thus far run a wide range. Some are people who work in Rescue societies who take on sick iguanas, nurse them to health & then find them good homes OR just find a needy iguana a good home--because of this they have seen symptoms you have described and know the urgency required; others are long time owners who are trying to help based on learned or experienced knowledge. We run from teenagers to old fogies such as myself. The bond that holds us is our love for these reptiles. We don't hit the panic button very often *grin* The "shakes" that you describe is what everyone posting here worried. If this is the beginning of MBD, it has been caught EARLY because you are a good owner and noticed things right away. It will not go away on its own without proper treatment. It can, however, be cured. It can also leave NO LASTING EFFECTS such as curved spine, bumps, etc. IF you get treatment going NOW.

Please ask your parents to read these posts. And encourage them to write here, too, with any questions they have concerning this. Plenty of people on this forum will be glad to help answer questions. Caring for an iguana is by far not the easiest thing to do and we who post regularly at the forum are always helping each other. We're not perfect....but we try *smile*
