Mike,

I *completely* understand you wanting to get an iguana that would live a long time.
That was one of the big reasons I choose to get a cyclura.

The entire genus Cyclura are so much more hardy than green iguanas for some reason; you can expect them to last an extremely long time as long as they are given decent care.
You do not need to be as precise as you would with a green iguana, for instance; as healthy adults cyclura can take temps
down to low 50's at night as long as they can warm up during the day, and they can take temps up to 115 or more in the daytime.
Obviously for a baby or a weak animal this would not be the case though. They are really like steel battle tanks as adults.

The Cuban cyclura (C. nubila nubila) is probably the most tame of all, although all C. nubila (lewisi i.e. Blue Iguana,
caymanesis, i.e. Cayman Brac brown iguana) will all become very very tame. Rhinos tend to need more patience, they tame about the same as green iguanas, they can
be quite feisty as babies. But I have seen some very tame rhino iguanas, after all just look at Joe's "kali", she is gorgeous!

To tell you the truth, Cubans are my favorite. I wish I could get one but I cannot get an iguana that is going to get that huge; females 24"svl, males 29"svl.Cayman island cyclura are smaller,
males about 19-20 SVL, females 16"svl max.

Where do you live? If you live outside the state of California, try for the Puerto Rican population of the cuban cyclura.

Good luck with your decision,

Check out the following website for one of the best (and one of the very few honest breeders).
I would not deal with anyone else when it comes to cyclura.
