Captive and wild caught market need exploration and discussion on this matter.
I agree with you on the rampant exploitation of species, and the "slave trade" aspects of wild caught animals for sale.
The consequences of these short sighted actions are hurting the rest of us. Tennessee has done a great disservice for its citizens with laws, and other states have, and probably will be following suit. The whole rosy boa collecting mayhem and possession has gotten way out of hand due to unsustainable collection and reactionary legislation.
Again, the captive produced surplus of animals needs to be addressed, because wholesalers care about $$$, not the fact that these animals are, in my opinion, beings that are beyond object status. I know folks who feed their animals as little as necessary, and brumate them for 6 months just to get by, and still have half their collection die every year. It's all about the owners, and their self serving desires to pleasure themselves.
People just need to think things through before they act. Regulation of breeding should be done by the breeder, not through legislation. Collecting ethics should be regulated by the herp community, not by legislators and agencies that know less about the species than ourselves. Because of a few self centered, short sighted individuals, the rest of us suffer.
It's good to see some people care about these animals in a holistic way.
