:In the wild, annectens may intergrade with affinis in the eastern part of it's range. However, I would consider the captive breeding of these two subspecies a hybrid. In my opinion, natural intergrades don't occur in captivity and any given subspecies can demonstrate considerable variability in different parts of it's range.
when two animals of the same species"affinis, annectans" cross it is an intergrade. p.catenifer annectans and p.c. affinis. if you were to crss a n. pine or a bull with one of the gophers it would be a hybrid. different specieS!
