Oh, one last thought:
I know someone who, as a young child, loved snakes. Then some of his fellow boyscouts decided to slip a full grown black ratsnake into his sleeping bag. the moment he hopped in the bag he was bit again and again and again. He struggled for a bit to get out of his sleeping bag and when he finally the snake made it's excape too, but not before biting him one last time. Unlike you the incident turned him off of snake for ever. He is now 55 years old and still needs to summon up his courage just to look at a pic of any snake.

I'm not sure how aggressive ratsnakes usually are but that is how the story was told to me.

:My first snake was a Nerodia sipedon sipedon. I went over to the dock where he was basking, and picked him up. This was a very foolish thing to do, I was ten years old, and for all I knew, it could have been a Crotalid (I later found out that there are no venomoids in my area) and he wasted no time in whipping around and tagging my wrist. I was bleeding like crazy, but I was as happy as can be. I don't know how that particular experience got me hooked on herps, but it did. I still will always love Nerodia though, great snakes.
:James
