UV lights for lizards are like SUVs for many people. Many people don't need them, but they buy them anyway. Like SUVs and other big, gas hog, four-wheel drive vehicles, people by UV lights because of the hype on them, not out of need. I am not using UV lights or my pet lizards and they are fine. I have a bearded dragon who is doing great without a UV light. I've kept other day-active liazrds without UV light and they thrived. A good diet is the key to calcium absorbtion.
Of course, it's a free country, and folks can buy what they want. Or, as in my case, choose what not to buy.
