: If we put 15-20 ants in the tank, they will bite our HL, is there a way to feed ants so they will not do this? My son says HE only puts in 6-7 at a time, but I like to feed alot so our HL can get all he wants like in the wild. What does everyone else do to feed??? Lisa
:Hello Lisa. Only offer a few ants at a time and let the HL decide the rate of consumption. That is what they do in the wild. In enclosures, the HLs will feel threatened by too many ants. In the wild, the HLs can retreat from ant activity if they feel they cannot handle the activity. If you collect your own ants from the wild, put the container with the ants in the refridgerator and "cool' them down. Then offer the ants to the HL a few at a time. I has worked for me for many years with my captive study group of HLs. Lester G. Milroy III
