ants

If we put 15-20 ants in the tank, they will bite our HL, is there a way to feed ants so they will not do this? My son says HE only puts in 6-7 at a time, but I like to feed alot so our HL can get all he wants like in the wild. What does everyone else do to feed??? Lisa
