:Westerns are definitely a good choice...some people have them as their first snakes. They are normally more oepnminded in their feeding habits and will take to mice with more gusto than Easterns. They are often avaialable from herp stores. Make sure you get one that is already feeding on mice. Some can be a bit picky and they might go off feed for a few months of the year, but that is pretty normal for the species. Good luck. andy


Andy is the care of a hognose and cage set up for one is it the same as a california kingsnake. both of these snakes live in the desert or plains areas so I figured the care may be the same.
