Westerns are definitely a good choice...some people have them as their first snakes. They are normally more oepnminded in their feeding habits and will take to mice with more gusto than Easterns. They are often avaialable from herp stores. Make sure you get one that is already feeding on mice. Some can be a bit picky and they might go off feed for a few months of the year, but that is pretty normal for the species. Good luck. andy
