Hi,
I don't even think a hognose is venomous..I have done a lot of reading on them and haven't seen anything about it, there is one site where a man said he was bitten several times during feeding times and has had no effect as for their temperment, I don't think you could ask for a better snake, they may show signs of attack but I have never ever been actually bitten by one, I have seen them look like cobra's ready to strike but most of the time they roll over and play dead. We have one we have had for awhile, we found him in Calif. as a baby on the road, my 1st experience, I went to get him, he acted silly hissing and striking, (not actually biting) then just flipped over on his back and his tounge came out, I thougt I gave him a heart attack!!!!!! I now see that's just how they are. We now have 5 of them! My father has a lot of snakes, I don't really much care for them, you go over to his house and his whole house is wall to wall set-ups for snakes, and out of all of them the neatest he has is his hogs, 2 of them now reside at my house! haha
Go to this website and see one playing dead :))
