The venom is a very weak component normally used to help the killing/digestion of toads, their main prey that will puff up like balloons when grabbed by the hog. Garter snakes could possibly be categorized as rear fanged as they have enlarged rear teeth but no real devunroys gland so to speak. Snakes of the genus Tantilla and Diadophis are as well rearfanged but are small and generally docile. Andy
