When I got my first baby western hognose early this year, I couldn't get them to eat either. I too had them on aspen and was taking them out to feed them in a deli cup...they wouldn't eat.
I talked to the breeder and he told me that when they are babies, they are very shy. That I should put them on paper towels for the substrate and offer them F/T pinks late in the evening and leave them there until morning.
This worked. I did this about 5 or 6 feeding, then switched them over to aspen and now they feed like champs in the deli cups.
I just thought that I would pass that along, so maybe you can try that next time.
Better luck on your next hog,
Brian Miller
