breeding question

I just put a pair of my gilas together last weekend. The "pair" was sold to me as 1.1 but when I put them together, they really started fighting (biting, hissing, chasing) I got scared so I sperated them. Is this very common? I guess there's a change that they're both males.

I do have another female (I'm sure this one is) that I can introduce to the male, but just wanted to get advice. If they were both males, should I just consider this combatting and introduce a different female.

Any info would help!!!!

I thought this forum would get busier now that breeding season is here.....
