Remember that even an adult gerbil with supervision can hurt a snake. I have had snakes being chewed on while a snake was constricting or trying to eat a mouse. Better just to kill them at least so that only their back legs twitch as the nerve endings die. And as stated before, most animals that are smaller or innocuous will often be swallowed alive. Andy
