:I have an emerald tree boa with mouth rot, she has been moved into a large tupperware container and both humidity and temps have been increased. She has a vet appointment but not until friday and I don't really trust my vet...he is not a herp vet but the only vet who will look at them. Is there anything I can do to fight this myself. I usually take care of all my herp problems but these problems are few. Any info would be great

Here are some things you can do:

1) Jack up the temperature a couple of degrees Fahrenheit. It usually helps though I haven't heard whether the reason is higher temp being inhibitory on the bacteria or higher temp stimulates the snake's immune system. (Source -- Dr. Richard Ross, author of The Reproductive Husbandry of Pythons and Boas).

2) Apply Polysporan first aid cream daily on the affected areas inside the mouth. It helps with one type of mouth rot but not with another. (Source -- Dr. Richard Ross) I tried this on a ball python, and his mouth rot cleared up.

3) Supplement diet with vitamin C. It helps. (Source -- Dr. Fredric Frye's Reptile Care)

4) Get the vet to also check the snake for flagellate protozoans in the mouth, gut, and cloaca and treat them too, if necessary. (Source -- the most experienced herper I know.)

I hope this is a captive bred individual. If it is wild caught, you ought to read the paper about emerald vomiting disease.

Good luck.
