I'd have to agree with the people that said there really isn't a good solution to what you want. If you're going to be able to help your fiance care for the snake (since you have some experience), then it might be easier.
Whatever snake he ends up getting is going to be around for a very long time. So why not get a nice beginner snake, like a corn or king, or a ball paython or small boa, and take a couple years to learn the ropes. There are a number of strikingly beautiful snakes which are also easy-going and inexpensive. The green ones will still be around when/if he decides he's ready for one.
