Please help! Long story short is that a neighbor of mine found a snake in his daughters room and being from the South the families first instinct was to smash the hell out of it. Luckily it got away and then they called me.... I went over to the house, found the snake and now have it in a critter keeper. I am unfamiliar with the kind of snake and will post a picture as soon as I can for some help identifying it. It is approx 8 inches long, VERY pretty brownish-green coloring (not keeled), white belly. Very handsome snake. Like I said I'll get a pic and post it later...

Now the important part.... The snake has 2 small "crush" injuries... one looks very minor and is almost on the tip of his tail... the other one concerns me though, it is mid-body on the underside and has some definite scale damage and bruising to the tissue underneath... there is no blood or "meat" displacement so I am hopeful.

Questions in my mind are:

1. Should I attempt to keep this snake at all in the first place or just let it go? (would I be doing more harm than good in even trying to help out?)

2. What should I do for the injuries???? (peroxide?, iodine?, clean water?, or just time?)

3. Since I do not even know what kind of snake this is right now, I suppose I will set up a couple hide boxes.. one wet and one dry and let the snake figure out where it wants to be... Sound good?

4. I have never kept such a small snake... I suppose earthworms will do... am I right? maybe if it wont eat worms.. maybe small crickets... I dunno, I am not going to try and feed it at all for 4 days... (I just pulled that number out of thin air... I figure since it is so dang small it must have a faster metabolism than the snakes I am used to... But hell, I dont even know if this beauty is a baby or full grown... I may have a future 4-5 foot snake for all I know...)

I'll get some pics of the snake showing the injuries and the whole snake for ID purposes as soon as I can... I have a digital camcorder and it takes me a little bit to pull snapshots off of it.

Scott
