Screened Lid CLIPS Don't work - 2 Snakes Lost.

I have lost 2 snakes due to the fact that the CLIPS that are sold to hold down the screened-lids on tanks have not held and the snakes escaped. Does anyone know of a better way to secure the lids on aquarium tanks?
