That powertoy is great if you need a quick resize.

A lot of your photo editing software nowadays have "save for web" options that will compress the image for you and speed downloads. < 60k is a decent rule to work with in regards to file size for images.

@ 640x480 is a nice view size that will be viewable for most people without having to scroll around their browser. Keep in mind, its probably best to reduce size by percentage and "maintain aspect ratio" (most programs have this option or similar) so the image doesn't distort by being squashed or stretched when you resize a horizontal or vertical.

:You probably have a photo/image editor on your computer, if not, then there are lots of free ones on the internet to download. You want to open up the pic in an image editor, and resize it to 800x600 or 640x480. This should get the file size down.

:If you are running windows xp, microsoft has a free powertoy available that lets you resize pics from the right-click menu.
