If you search this forum there are a number of questions when people have asked exactly the same question you did. I am 99% sure you have some form of Japalura (really likely J. splendida ). Also you probably are seeing adults at the pet store, they max out at around 10 inches. Though occasionally other species virtually unknown to the western reptile hobby are imported mostly by accident, and are bought by people who can't care for them properly and they are lost once again to the western reptile hobby. Please though, get a picture. Also there is a yahoo group that is specifically for Japalura keepers, it currently has 35 members. TO join it send a blank e-mail to

good luck,
Devlin

:Found a picture of Japalura sp. and I don't think that's it. however, as soon as my new digital camera (again) arives, I am going to go take a few pics so you can see them. I may even buy a few. By the way... if they are indeed Japalura sp., how big do they get??

:
:::So I went to my local chain petstore the other day and saw a couple additions to the normally dry(boring) collection of herps they have. These guys were tagged as banana tree dragons, and were priced about $35.00 each. They looked like they were doing fairly well, so i inquired about them. The guy I asked about them (a manager to boot) didn't know a thing about them. I asked how big they got when adults, if they were wild caught or captive bred, what they ate... he even asked done of the "regular" associates and she didn't know either. The ignorance of the people who actually "manage" pet stores is starting to make me mad. P.S. I looked up Banana Tree Dragon on Yahoo, and got no results.... do these animals exist? Basically black/green with yellow stripes. They look like young water dragons.
