I think that the main reason the ones in the pet store are fidgety and aggressive is that they're kept in a TINY tank (ten gal or less) and are given no hides. they're out on display under bright lights all day even though they'd rather be sleeping. bound to make anyone cranky if you ask me. Also, a lot of the pet shop employees that I've seen just don't know how to handle them. they aren't calm and slow when trying to handle the tokays and keep thinking of that "reputation" and so it just screws everything up. that being said I got a full grown male from the petstore whom everyone said was the devil incarnate and he was one of the best pets I've ever had. very sweet and handleable. as was already mentioned, space, hides, and time should do the trick. also, as an addition to the food question mine always loved pinkie mice. hope this helps!
