WKMG 6 (Orlando, Florida) April 03 Largest Crocodile In North America Dies
Bonita Springs, Florida: Big Joe, a crocodile who lived the good life at a Bonita Springs tourist attraction, is dead.
The 15-footer at Everglades Wonder Gardens was believed to be about 75 years old.
Big Joe has been billed as the largest North American crocodile in the world. He came to Wonder Gardens in 1936 when he was caught in a fisherman's net in Key Largo.
The 1,200 pound wonder ate about 30 pounds of chicken, fish and other handouts each week
Big Joe will live on. A taxidermist is making arrangements for a permanent display.
His living successor is Crusher, a 45-year-old croc measuring 14 feet.
