I'm sure they were at least a partial scavenger too... I mean who isn't? Thinking about binocular vision... monitor lizards don't have it, and neither did the exinct predatory bird Titanis (if memory serves). I always hear palentologists bring it up, though, I guess because Allosaurus and the like didn't have the pinched in snout of T. rex.
I don't think sauropods were on the menu either (what sauropods?) but I think the hadrosaur on that TV show was pretty good proof, given that T. rex was the only large predator in the ecosystem.
