:what is the best garter snake substrate? I used to use soil mixed with peat moss, but that was messy and took a while to get the right mixture. Now I use aspen on newpaper. I am worried that aspen will get stuck to the minnows I feed. What do you guys use? Help will be much appreciated, as I seem to be getting 5,000 different answers from people. thanx!

Hello
Your question can indeed be answered thousands of times over....with different answers.

I have over the years used everything from pine bedding to my own "Earth" mix.
I now choose to use news paper, but I simply can not stand looking at my Beautiful Snakes on news paper.

Soon I will be switching back to good ole astroturf. Garters look great on it and it is very durable and easy to clean.

It's best to have more than one piece cut for each cage, this way while one is hang drying after being cleaned...you have one being used.

Then you can just switch them as needed!

Mike
