In Reply to: How can I tame my WC garter?!?!?! posted by b3napoleon on December 10, 2002 at 20:54:43:
Since he's wildcaught and you've had him for so long already I think you're just going to have to live with it..
However, if you're still willing to try, try heating his tank during the day, and taking him out in the morning after washing your hands in very warm water, so that he'll be more tempted to stay still and absorb the heat..
Handle him every day to every other day.. My snake is captive bred, and an eastern as well, but I've handled him every day since I got him 5 months ago and he's just calming now..
Be prepared for it to take *forever*, at least 6 months, maybe as long as a few years, particularly if he's wild caught..
:I have a WC flame garter. I have had him for about 2 years now. Whenever I pick him up, he either swings around in circles in midair, bites me, craps on me, or does all 3 (that is really fun, NOT). What can I do to help calm him down? I used to hold him a lot, but it didn't seem to do much good. Just when I trusted him again he bit me for no reason. All help is appreciated. THanx.
