what's the problem with the tank? bottom leaks or what? or was he just saying that you shouldn't fill the tank completely with water? all you need is a shallow water container buried in the substrate anyway. as long as aquarium holds the weight nothing to worry about. if there is a crack in the bottom on one side you can just glue in a plexiglass divider to keep water on other side.
