you could put a plant leaf into the water, so the crix can climb out onto it rather then drowning. i had to do this in my firebelly toad tank, as they sometimes have trouble catching crix fast enough. hm, I would wait a day or so, then try again, seems like he is more active after dark? you could put a dim light on across the room, and put in a few crix, then watch from a distance, while watching tv or reading to alleviate boredom til he comes out :) I did this in order to watch my bullfrog eat, he refuses flatly to eat in my presence in daylight, but in the dim light he doesn't know we are there :)
