you don't. the 'female' might be a female, just doesn't like the males. females are larger and fatter but that doesn't help too much if female not full grown. males will have black tipped 'warts' on their back and legs when it is breeding season. the nuptial pads too. the only way to know is to simulate breeding. sometimes they are fickle.
