i don't know how good bedabeast is in regards to providing nutrients for the plants. It is not the same as soil in that regard. I use small pots that I put each plant in, containing clean soil, and I pile the BB over it in the tank. Otherwise you would have to pull each plant out of the substrate everytime you cleaned the cage, and that could result in damaged and broken plants.
