Great points, My thinking was that LEOs should spend time on serious crimes, taking (non endangered) herps from the wild is a victimless crime like prostitution or speeding. If you catch someone, just give them a freaking $500.00 ticket and be done with it! CAl F&G spent millions of $$ in 1991-1993 to bust some people who had breeding permits for native animals. BIG WASTE of tax $. They got sued by most of the arestees (subjects) for major civil rights violations and then again I and all the other subjects of the PRK had to pay for screwing up something that could have been handled with a ticket and a small fine. (most charges were fabricated by-the-way due to a negative view of herpers by the enforcement side of Cal DFG) Out of dozens of arrests, I think charges stuck to one guys and it was a minor infraction.
