I think the issue of what is right, what is legal, and what is ethical has been jumbled together. It is unethical to teach others, friends, family, etc. to disregard laws and poach. It is unethical to capture gravid zonata and sell or trade the offspring. It shouldn't be illegal to breed them but that's a lawmaker issue not a law enforcer issue. Trying to get the Fish and Game commission to budge on this is a friggin' pipe dream.
It is unethical to but not illegal to go herping with a party and withhold the knowledge of your captures. It is unethical for party "B" to share with party "C" a spot party "A" has shared under the agreement the site would remain secret.
It is illegal to keep over your limit. Some would say it is legal but perhaps under the spirit of the law unethical to capture snakes and have them under the assumption every member of your family from age 6 months to 15 years old owns them.
I seem to have hit a sore spot.
