Hello,
I posted on this same topic last season, and want to thank everybody again for their help.
If you missed it last year, I am a student at San Diego State University doing a study on genetic geographic variation within sidewinders. So, if anybody out there happens to come across any dead sidewinders on the road, I would be greatly appreciative if you could put it in a platic bag, note the locality, freeze it, and contact me (pece@rohan.sdsu.edu).
I will be happy to send stamped return envelopes, vials, ethanol or whatever you may need to get the sample back to me. All I need is some scales or a small peice of tissue such as the liver and the location you found the specimen. I have received shed skins in the past and this has worked great (although I only use a few of the scales from the shed).
Thanks for listening,
Andy Pece
