Maybe I just got lucky, but I have pet store rats that put out 10 - 17 per litter. Unless you care about color or coat types, pick out healthy rats with good body shape, clear eyes, dry noses, that are active. Give them clean water, good chow, ventilation, proper temps and good cages. You won't be able to stop them! I suggest that if you have any sick animals, that you don't treat them, but cull them. Money spent treating feeders is hardly worth it and more importantly exposes your whole colony to the disease. That's my experience.
