it balances the pH. I set some out when I am going away for days, and then the ammonia does not make my eyes bleed (j/k) when i return. Does not do much for the smell IMO

:Has anyone ever tried using baking soda in the bottom of rodent cages to help cut down on the smell? Would it be safe to try? I have several large male rats and they seem to stink up their cage really quickly....so I'm trying to find stuff to combine with the vinegar that would help with the smell...
