Well I guess I must be a horrible herp keeper.
One of my co-workers had a garter snake that kept escaping. I found it several times in my classroom. One day he said "I don't really want this snake anymore... you want it?" So I thought... sure, why not? So He brought the snake over in its enclosure, a ten gallon. I provided the poor thing with a few hides and a water dish better than the styrofoam bowl that he had. Gave him some appropriate food, and put my hardback Shakespeare and a ten pound rock on the lid to keep him in. Planned on bringing in some velcro straps to keep the top on tight, since he's a known escape artist. You can guess what happened, right? With over 18 pounds holding the lid down, he was still nowhere to be found after the weekend. Hopefully he'll be found lurking on some dark bookshelf or under a desk, but in the meantime I have an empty ten gallon in my classroom. If I find him I'll bring in one of my normal reptile cages. But I'm beginning to feel like I've had some of the worst luck. Got my first snake in September of last year, and had my first escaped snake in September of this year. Obviously I'm not doing EVERYTHING wrong, but there must be something. Ah well... here's a picture of George, at large in my classroom somewhere, if he hasn't escaped the building.
