Well I'm pretty sure that cats aren't a usual part of a ball python's diet so maybe it won't try to eat the cat. But if it (the cat) is REALLY small (like a kitten?), and if the snake is as hungry as you say...well you never know. Is there any place you can keep your cat until you find your snake? It might be safer for both of them..
