I started our "classroom zoo" last year when I taught biology to at-risk teens and teen moms. It started with a leo (my first reptile - although my background is as a mammalian zookeeper) and we soon added on, inheriting a pair of box turtles, an aquarium, and starting a humid terrarium for tree frogs and anoles. When I moved to my current position in my hometown (teaching eighth grade general science) I brought along our leo and the tree frog and anole. One of the janitors "donated" his ball python to our classroom soon after, and because we're interested in breeding leos here, I bought a male at the MARS show.We raise our own food, so we also have rats and mice - finally some babies in sight as one of the rats is pregnant. My husband and I also raise hissers as a staple food so they are here too. Tell me more about your program - I haven't incorporated the animals into ours very much yet.
