Father having problem with career choice.

My name is Aaron and i want to be a herpetologist and my father has a problem with it he says that i cant make a living doing it for a living i was wondering if anyone can give me some thoughts to tell my dad like where a herpetologist would work and what the get paid doing it. He also is a ephithiophobiac(having an unnatural fear of snakes) he hates snake and wishes they never existed. Please help me it will help in my choice of colleges and certain other life choices.
