:i was wondering if i made and out door cage out of wood and screen if it would be a good idea for my dragons to go in it for about an hour on warm days. i took my girl tethys outside after supper today and when i brought her back inside all she wanted to do was hide.she was very stressed probably abit overwelmed.but making an outdoor cage be a good idea when the weather is in the mid 20's in Celsius (im in Canada by the way) p.s. is it normal for tethys to be stressed like this.
Rick::Its normal if she is not used to natural sunlight. Natural sunlight will stimulate hormone production and can be like getting a steroid shot. Many captive reptiles become flighty or aggressive when first given exposure to natural sunlight. You waterdragon will adjust and the benefits such as improved immune system, D3 synthesis and impoved color will be well worth it. Using an outdoor cage for short periods of exposure is one of the best things you can do for your waterdragon and is far superior to artifical lighting. Make sure thatyour cage has water and shade available.
