You would only need a permit from TX Parks & Wildlife if you are keeping more than a certain number of a given Texas species or more than another number (is it 25?) of native herps in the aggregate. (You also need a permit to sell native species.) If you are only keeping 2 or 3 native individuals then you do not need the Nongame Collector's Permit. If you are collecting them from the wild, however, you do need a hunting license.
