Although you heard that this was a rough green snake, with those dimensions it could not be. Rough green snakes are slender so that with that width it would have to be over two feet long. It would also be bright green (unless it were a hatchling, when it would be considerably smaller than a pencil).
If you bring it to our next meeting (7pm May 19) we'll be glad to identify it for you, and you'll get to see slides of some beautiful animals from Baja California.
