most snakes have only one functional lung (the right one I believe) including vipers. The exceptions are the primitive snake families (example: Loxocemus) although I believe the left one is reduced (but functional) and that they predominately utilize only the right one. If I am wrong, I apologize as I am doing this from memory as it has been awhile since I took herpetology.
