Actually I've always been successful getting males to breed by doing what you already did, place two males in the same cage and let em fight it out. Corns and other ratsnakes have male combat as part of their mating rituals so putting two males in together will often get them pumped up enough so that they're in the mood. If they won't wrestle with each other, sometimes it works to do it yourself. Take him out and play with him somewhat roughly (don't hurt him though).

I have a Sinaloan milk snake that is a reluctant breeder. A few years ago, I got curious as to whether or not he was actually a male so I probed him. He fought me the whole way, but he probed male and when I put him back in his cage, he was locked up with a female in under a minute. I also talked to someone once who says that bagging up his males and taking them for a ride on a bumpy road gets them in the mood. It seems that some snakes just like it a bit rough. It might sound a little strange, but it's worth a shot anyway.
